Colors can have meaning and can affect you deeply

Colors send signals to the brain without us even thinking about it. It might be a good idea to check out the meaning of colors.

Whether we realize it or not we are at all moments surrounded by different hues and varieties of colors, shades and light. Nothing in the laws of nature appear or happen by accident. In fact all room design colors have a meaning in our day to day life and sometimes even inadvertently influences our mood and frame of mind.

That is why on any given day one feels like wearing black while on other days you feel like spicing it up for yourself and you go in something bright, fluorescent or at times an elusive dark evening dress. But that part is relatively easy, the difficult part is when you have to select interior decorating colors or specifically home decorating colors.

It is so because once you finalize interior design paint colors, the interior paint colors remain for a while influencing you and your life in subtle ways. And you cannot change the interior decor colors overnight, so to speak.

Modern interior design colors take into cognizance certain established ground rules before setting out to finalize interior design paint colors. Red, yellow, orange are active colors; blue, green and purple are passive while white, black, gray, beige are neutral. And all the decorating colors have an invigorating, calming or softening influence on the ambience of the room in their own colorful ways. So a lot of thought goes into getting the mood and balance in the room just right as per your specific needs.

Weight Loss Improves the Memory

A team of scientists from Sweden confirmed that middle-aged women who keep a diet have much better memory. The announcement was made in San Francisco at the 95th annual conference of the Endocrine Society.

Andreas Pettersson, the author of the study from UmeƄ University, Sweden, says the results clearly demonstrate that memory problems provoked by obesity are, in fact, reversible.
The experiment involved twenty postmenopausal women suffering from obesity. Before and after the diet, the researchers measured their body mass index and the density of fat tissue. They also tested episodic memory. Memory tests presumed comparing names and faces in a photo.

The study lasted for six months, during which the participants lost an average of eight pounds. It was found that diet and physical exercise improve not only the cardiovascular system of older women, but their brain function as well.

Functional MRI gave scientists the ability to view the brain activity of the participants when performing memory tests. At the end of the research, it became clear that after weight loss the memory quality improved. The specialists were also able to register the changes in the participants’ brain activity.

Based on this, Pettersson concluded that women’s brain became more active and better able to absorb the information after they lost weight.

What Causes Grey Hair?

Researchers from New York University conducted a series of experiments on mice, which helped them establish that stress hormones remove melanocytic stem from the hair. These cells are responsible for hair color, and that’s the reason why grey hair appears.

L'Oreal to produce anti-grey hair pills

The human body is naturally programmed to grey hair. With age, the supply of melanocytic stem cells that produce pigment in the skin and hair gets exhausted practically with all the people. Scientists note that the process can be initiated by stressful experiences, only under this condition it can occur several times faster.

The head of the research Mayumi Ito says stress hormones contribute to the migration of melanocytes from hair follicles to damaged skin areas.

Grey hair, which appears after stress is a bad sign indicating the anomalous behavior of melanocytic stem cells, which actually leads to greying. Stress hormones destroy melanocytes, which are not only responsible for hair color, but also heal damaged skin. The lack of melanocytes makes the body very vulnerable.

Stem cells in normal condition produce melanocyte, which, heading towards the injured area, remains at the base of hair follicles. However, stress disrupts their normal functioning, and the cells gradually leave their “safe haven.”

Happy Beading!

Make your own unique and fashionable jewellery with colourful beads:

1. Necklace

Material:

a)  Beading tray or household tray and fold of paper to hold beads

b)  Shallow containers to hold small beads, jam or pickle jar lids are ideal

c)  Beads as required for your own design

d)  2 calottes

e)  1 clasp

f)  Woven – polyester beading thread of the required length

g)  Gel and liquid superglue

h)  Flat – nosed pliers

i)  Sharp scissors

Method:

Gather the beads needed for your necklace. Place the larger beads, in order of threading, in the purpose – made grooved area of your beading tray or in your length of folded paper.

Place the small beads in the shallow containers (if you try to put them in with the larger beads they will roll out of sight beneath. For ease of threading, use the shallowest containers for the smallest beads. Measure out the required length of thread. The length given with each project allows for the tying of knots to the clasp --- if you are making your own design, don’t forget to allow an extra 15 cm for this.

At one end of your thread, tie two overhand knots, one on top of the other. Dab the resulting knot with a small touch of gel superglue (alternatively, you could use clear nail varnish to seal this knot) cut off spare thread.

Cover the knot with a calotte and use the pliers to squeeze it until it is closed and the thread is held securely.

Prepare the thread for threading by cutting diagonally across the other end using scissors. Dip the cut end of thread briefly into the liquid superglue to lightly coat approximately 5cm of thread. Allow to dry. When dry, the ‘glued’ end of the thread will become stiff enough to thread easily through the beads. Thread beads in the correct order.

When the threading is complete apply the second calotte, making sure that no spare thread is visible. To do this, just hold up the thread at the unfinished end and lift it to allow the weight of the beads to take up any stack.

Tie a double overhand knot as close to the last bead as possible. Touch the knot with the gel superglue and cover with a calotte.

The final task is to attach the clasp. Using the pliers, open either the loop on the clasp or the loop on the calotte to facilitate linking to open a loop sideways rather than outwards. This preserves its strength and makes accurate closing much easier.

Tips for dealing with a small kitchen

To create a more spacious look for your small kitchen design the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) recommends designing more unique storage solutions, mixing natural and ambient lighting, taking advantage of more space saving appliances, and adding personalized touches.

A small kitchen design requires creativity in coming up with storage solutions. Some ideas to try include:

• Putting an island in the center of the kitchen that can provide freestanding storage that is also convenient from any spot in the kitchen.

• Using a galley kitchen design in which the cabinets and appliances line up on either side of a corridor can work out very well for a small kitchen space.

• Today's appliance manufacturers have come up with more compact space-saving appliances make small kitchen design easier, such as refrigerators that are 24 inches deep instead of 30 inches deep, as well as appliances that can be hung underneath cabinets like microwaves.

• Other small kitchen design tricks to create an eating area in the kitchen include using a drop table or a small sized round table with two small chairs that can be tucked into a corner. Or a built-in counter along the wall with chairs to provide an eating nook.

• Another interesting challenge in small kitchen design is creating an illusion of space with under cabinet lighting or under the counter. With the proper type of lighting the kitchen can be made to appear larger and more pleasing.

Hair & Job Efficience Linked

Recent research shows that your hair can do with all the attention it can get, professionwise. If you grudge some time in the morning for your hair because you’re in a bustle to get to work on time, think again.

Woman's hairdo

Some Australian boffins assure us that as many as 73% lay great stock by the state of their colleagues’ hair when they evaluate their work performance.

The research, conducted by Australian salon Bossy Hair, also revealed that those women who tie their hair on the back were found to be more proficient at their work generally than women who let their hair hang down.

Therefore, as you tend to your children, get together your things and gulp down the morning coffee – probably trying to do everything at the same time – make a point of allotting a few minutes to your hair to get it in order for the office. Even more so since the research shows that more than a half of men and almost two-thirds of women say their performance depends greatly on their overall appearance, the better they are groomed the more efficient they feel.

As a side bit of information, red hair is regarded as the least welcome in the office – although there is the example of their own PM Julia Gillard to belie this!

Anna Musson, an etiquette specialist, confirms that those who are serious about their career ought to take pains to turn up invariably well-groomed. Your top managers may see you only for a short time at the meetings, she reminds, and their impression of yourself may rely too heavily on your general appearance.

People are apt to go on an assumption that if a person takes care of the way they look, they are highly likely to do their work with just as much care. Grooming goes hand in hand with discipline, and discipline is what is expected at the workplace. Such people exude reliability and ability, and employers feel they have made a good choice in hiring and promoting those who look efficient.
